The media voting for the predicted order of finish in the Atlantic Coast Conference isn’t exactly expecting a lot of improvement from the Maryland Terrapins.
The Terps, which finished 2-10 in 2009 and won just once in conference competition, is picked dead last in the Atlantic Division, far behind division favorite Florida State. (Read More…)

New Maryland Terrapins assistant basketball coach Bino Ranson has some big expectations already laid out for him.
Many have stated that Ranson will take control over recruits coming out of Baltimore and bring them to College Park.
Others have said that former Baltimore stars like Donte Greene and Malcolm Delaney would have been Terps had Ranson been at Maryland at the time.
Several top recruits from around the Baltimore area in 2011 and 2012 have ties to Ranson. (Read More…)

Quinn Cook, one of the top high school basketball players in Maryland, said he is dropping the Terps from his list of suitors.
Cook has received scholarship offers from many top schools including Duke, North Carolina and Villanova.
He is considered one of the top point guards in the country in the 2011 class and was high on the Terps list.
There are a lot of factors that will go into the decision, but playing time is certainly near the top.
As much as he might like Duke and North Carolina, there could be a logjam at the point guard position at both schools.

Entering the postseason, the Maryland Terrapins were riding a seven-game winning streak, had snagged a share of the ACC regular-season championship and carried big-time aspirations into March Madness.
But the madness bit the Terps on second-round Sunday in Spokane, ending their season in heart-breaking fashion.
Michigan State’s Korie Lucious beat the buzzer with a 3-pointer, the shot catapulting the Spartans to an 85-83 victory in the second round of the NCAA Tournament that ended Maryland’s season one win shy of the Sweet 16.
Honestly, it shouldn’t have been that close. Shooting just 43.9 percent from the floor and unable to solve Michigan State’s offense for most of the day, the Terps (24-9) found themselves down 16 points with 12 minutes to go.
But brilliant senior guard Greivis Vasquez pushed his team back into this one. He scored a team-high 26 points, including nine of Maryland’s final 11 points. His basket with six seconds left moved the No. 4 seed Terps ahead 83-82, and Maryland sat one defensive stop away from advancing.
But it wasn’t to be as the Spartans quickly got the ball into the frontcourt and found Lucious, who knocked down the game winner.
Eric Hayes added 18 points for Maryland. Landon Milbourne scored 11, and Jordan Williams added 10 points and a team-best 10 rebounds.

The Maryland Terrapins entered the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament Friday night looking to continue their winning ways.
But the Terps’ dream of winning the ACC tourney title ended in the quarterfinals.
Georgia Tech ran out to a 19-point lead, then held on at the finish, kicking the Terps out of the conference tourney with a 69-64 loss.
Greivis Vasquez, the ACC player of the year, scored 19 points. But he was stripped of the ball with six seconds left as he spotted up for a potential game-tying 3-pointer, and Tech hit two free throws in the final seconds to complete the upset.
Down 19 points, Maryland rallied furiously against the Jackets. But at the end, Tech made the defensive stop it needed. Maryland now will wait to see where it will end up in the NCAA tournament. Tournament pairings will be announced Sunday.

Greivis Vasquez earned his Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year award. Now, the senior guard would love to propel his Maryland Terrapins to the highest honor in the conference:
The tournament championship.
Vasquez and the Terps begin their ACC title quest Friday night, facing Georgia Tech in the conference quarterfinals at Greensboro Coliseum.
Maryland is arguably the hottest thing going entering postseason play. The Terps have won seven in a row, including a thrilling 76-74 win over the Jackets on Feb. 20, on Cliff Tucker’s game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.
The Terps have won nine of their past 10 and 13 out of 15. Tech advanced to the quarterfinals with a 62-58 victory Thursday over North Carolina.

Greivis Vasquez reached a milestone, but it was lesser-known Cliff Tucker who hit the big shot.
Down by one point with time running down, Tucker drained a 3-pointer from the left wing at the buzzer on Saturday to send the Maryland Terrapins to a thrilling 76-74 victory over Georgia Tech.
Tucker’s shot gave the Terps their ninth Atlantic Coast Conference victory of the season. Maryland (19-7, 9-3) sits in second place in the ACC, 1 ½ games behind first-place Duke.
Vasquez scored 18 points, cracking the 2,000 career point mark (becoming the sixth Maryland player to reach that plateau). He is the first ACC player with 2,000 points, 700 assists and 600 rebounds.
But Tucker came through with the biggest shot of the game. After Derrick Favors gave Tech a 74-73 lead with three seconds left, Maryland got the ball to midcourt, called timeout, and then found Tucker on the inbounds play for the game-winning shot.
Maryland plays host to Clemson on Wednesday.

Used to be, seeing North Carolina come into your build would cause trepidation.
But not so much this season. The defending national champions are mired near the bottom of the Atlantic Coast Conference standings. That’s the exact opposite of where the Maryland Terrapins resides.
The Terps (15-6, 5-2 ACC) sit in second place in the conference, just ½ game behind leader Duke and up a game in the loss column on Wake Forest, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
The Heels (13-9, 2-5) come in having lost two in a row and five out of their past six. Maryland, meanwhile, bounced back from a loss to Clemson last Sunday to win Thursday at Florida State.
Even though the name on the opposing jersey says North Carolina, this is not a premiere team, and games like Sunday are ones the Terps must win.
Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. Maryland then will play host to Virginia on Wednesday before traveling to Duke for what could be a showdown for first place with the ninth-ranked Blue Devils next Saturday.

On pace at halftime to score just 50 points – nearly 30 below its season average – the Maryland Terrapins found their offensive stride in the second half Thursday night.
After scoring just 25 points in the first 20 minutes at Florida State, Maryland rallied from a four-point halftime deficit with 46 second-half points. It proved to be just enough, the Terps edging the Seminoles 71-67.
The win keeps Maryland (15-6, 5-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) just ½ game behind conference leader Duke. The Terps are tied with Virginia for second place in the conference standings.
Maryland plays host to North Carolina on Sunday, then faces a huge week next week: a home game Wednesday with Virginia, followed with a trip to Duke next Saturday.
Greivis Vasquez led the Terps with 23 points Thursday. Landon Milbourne added 18. Jordan Williams came off the bench to score 14 on 7-of-11 shooting, and Eric Hayes added 12 points for Maryland.
